ACTING IN ENGLISH - COACHING
Overview
I am a professionally trained and experienced actor. In recent years I have used this background, together with my experience as a language trainer, to help actors who are non-native English speakers in their preparation for auditions and performances for theatre, TV and cinema.
I also continue to work as an actor myself in collaboration with multinational firms and independent productions.
Approach
Beyond helping actors with English language elements like pronunciation, stress and rhythm, I work a great deal on text analysis as I believe that an understanding of the character’s needs, desires and actions provides the actor with a natural connection to the text in English. Language skills are irrelevant if the actor does not know what the character is doing with the spoken words. I also find that this approach helps actors relax into speaking English, as all discussion of the characters, scene analysis, improvisation and rehearsals are done through this medium.
Who am I?
I began my training as an actor at the ZACH theatre school in Austin, Texas, USA. I then completed a two-year full-time acting diploma at the prestigious Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin, Ireland where I was awarded the top student grant for career growth by the Arts Council of Ireland. I worked for several years in all major theatres in Ireland – often in the role of the protagonist – and also worked in Television, Cinema, Radio and as a Voice-over artist. Today, in Italy, I work as an actor in recruitment programs for multinational firms, as well as in independent film productions.

Jude Sweeney was, for me, a guide in the understanding of acting in English: its sounds, its ways and its most important moods. With Jude I prepared for more than one audition in English and always found a great actor’s sensitivity, as well as extraordinary teaching skills of the English language. Jude’s energy is contagious and at the same time typically “British”. Jude is himself an example of how to stage a piece in English! His dedication to teaching is sincere and generous and as an acting and voice coach his understanding and his intuition are invaluable.
